IN VITRO means "in glass". Producing an IN VITRO culture means taking simple living organisms out of their environment and growing them in the laboratory. The aim is to analyse their development or satisfy medical needs (IN VITRO fertilisation of a human ovum, IN VITRO growth of human skin for severe burn victims, etc.).
