Hypertension

  Collection Health video glossary

HYPERTENSION or high blood pressure is excess pressure exerted on arterial walls by the bloodstream. When arteries have shrunk too much or are too rigid, blood circulates poorly and its pressure is permanently raised. Among other effects, HYPERTENSION wears out the heart and prevents the kidneys from filtering the blood properly.
