Desertification

  Collection Environment video glossary

DESERTIFICATION refers to the transformation of a region into desert, because of climate or human activity. Population settlement (ground trampled, trees burnt to make fire, plants eaten by animals) contributes to soil impoverishment. Lack of rain can also dry out soil and accelerate DESERTIFICATION.
