The GREENHOUSE EFFECT refers to a natural phenomenon caused by the fact that certain molecules in the Earth's atmosphere trap infrared rays emitted by the Earth's surface. An increase in the level of atmospheric CO2 caused by industrial activity is intensifying this process and leading to global warming.
